Preparation Timeline
2-3 Days Before
- Reduce training or rest completely
- Increase carbs (3.5-4.5g per pound of bodyweight)
- Hydrate well (half an ounce per pound of bodyweight)
Day Before
- Avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine
- Continue carb loading with whole grains, pasta, rice, fruits
Day of Assessment
- Eat 3-4 hours before: Carb-rich, low-fat meal
- Morning assessment? Small carb snack 1-2 hours before (banana, granola bar)
- Avoid calcium supplements or TUMS (affects DEXA results)
- No metal clothing or jewelry for DEXA scan (see examples below)
